Bill Knight
In my career I have learnt that management is a service and that to deliver it well you need a sound foundation of fact, respect for colleagues and a commitment to telling it like it is.
Experience
Bill spent 34 years as a City solicitor. He joined Simmons & Simmons as an articled clerk in 1967 and retired as Senior Partner in 2001. He was a corporate lawyer, acting in take-overs, listings and the occasional scandal. He spent the last four years before he became Senior Partner in privatising the railways.
He currently chairs the Financial Reporting Review Panel and is Deputy Chairman of the Council of Lloyd’s, where he is a nominated (independent) member. He is a Gambling Commissioner, and chaired the Enforcement Committee of the General Insurance Standards Council until its functions were taken over in 2005 by the FSA. He chaired an enquiry by the Greater London Assembly into public sector pay in London. He is a member of the panel advising the policyholder advocate on the re-attribution of the Norwich Union inherited estate
He is a trustee of Common Purpose International and governor of two state schools.
Bill is married to a writer, and has two grown up children who are both journalists and is a keen amateur photographer.
Professional Expertise
Bill is experienced in managing professional services organisations and also as a non-executive director and chairman. He likes to work with clients who are senior in their organisations and to help with the problems and opportunities which come with seniority. He is very interested in the transition from full time work, particularly for professionals who have been focused on their discipline for many years.
