Praesta LEADERS IN EXECUTIVE COACHING

James Marlar

James’s coaching style is client-centred and supportive. His approach is firmly pragmatic, challenging and thought provoking. It hinges around initial contracting on key objectives/outcomes whilst identifying natural strengths and motivational drivers. James’s enthusiasm for coaching reflects his own personal and professional values. He relishes the opportunity of working alongside clients, supporting them to make what are often courageous decisions and choices. These choices, coupled with a desire for ongoing feedback are often the ingredients which can fuel-inject lasting behavioural and communication changes which in turn can dramatically improve performance.

Experience

James has always been interested in Individual and Organisational behaviour and this is what led him to alter direction from his first career in the City. During that time, he had lived and worked in the UK, US and Holland, recruiting and developing people in a number of functional areas and latterly advising a US Investment Bank on its European expansion within the Private Banking division. This gave him direct exposure to restructuring and building effective producers and senior management teams.

He was a Founder Director of The Consulting Group, divested and integrated within TMP Worldwide in 1999. Subsequent Coaching experience gained with Penna PLC as a Career Coach, both in the London City office and within Board practice. During this time he qualified through internal and external accreditation as a Performance Coach before moving to Fairplace PLC in November 2004 as an Executive Coach with additional responsibility for building the firm’s brand in the Talent Management practice. He remains committed to his own professional development and accreditation for the coaching professional overall.

Professional Expertise

His journey as a coach began in 2001. He has worked across a number of industries including Financial Services, Telecoms and Non profit sectors. He retains a keen interest in all areas of personal effectiveness/development including onboarding/first 100 days, career transition, building momentum and impact.

He divides his time between the West Midlands office and London. In providing a balance between commercial and family life, James is an avid fund-raiser and a Business Mentor for The Prince's Trust. Physical challenges are important to him - he relishes any long distance hiking expeditions and decent opposition on the tennis court!
