Hilary Lines
I work with leaders and their teams with full attention to their business environment, providing space for them to explore how they can develop their impact, presence and authenticity as leaders, while advising them on practical strategies for change. I take an adaptable rather than a formulaic approach to my work; I love responding what comes up, providing support and challenge where it is most valuable, and where it helps, inviting humour into the process.
Experience
While much of Hilary's work is one to one, she also brings extensive experience of helping leaders and their executive teams address business, interpersonal and leadership challenges together. She has supported both private and public sector boards as they grapple with the challenge of leading major change to improve business results, often following merger or acquisition.
Hilary has worked with leaders across most European countries and America. She has designed and led programmes which help leaders realise their potential to lead internationally and across complex structures. A key feature of her work has been with professional services firms, helping client facing executives to enhance their capacity to provide real value to their board level clients.
Hilary's work for her doctorate inquired into the factors which impacted the career development and business contribution of PhD scientists in the food industry. Her career began in the pharmaceutical sector, where she became Head of Career and Management Development within R&D at The Wellcome Foundation, before moving to PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked as a leadership consultant and coach to senior clients and their boards. She became Global Head of Leadership Development at PwC Consulting and later an executive coach to the Senior Vice President and Board of IBM's European consulting practice. She describes some of her experience in working with Health Service Boards in a chapter in 'Towards the Learning Company', edited by Tom Boydell, John Burgoyne and Mike Pedler, 1995.
Hilary has three sons, has a passion for music, art deco travel, sings in a London choir and enjoys running.
Professional Expertise
Hilary brings to her coaching and team work a broad business knowledge, an understanding of the issues involved in bringing about change in complex systems, and an understanding of the psychology of human development. She has a particular skill in enabling people to get beneath the surface of organisational politics and conflicts and to confront their own self limiting beliefs to build resonant relationships which deliver business results. Her versatility enables her to draw on a wide range of interventions, including personal effectiveness coaching, team dynamics and strategies for facilitating change within complex systems.
